The Town of Splendid Havelies: Mandawa

A small town in the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan, Mandawa is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India. The town is located at a distance of 190 kilometers away from Jaipur, which is renowned for its spectacular havelies and forts. Mandava came into being in 1756 when Nawal Singh built the fort. But it became a full-fledged town only after Nawal Singh’s two grandsons decided to make it their home at the close of the 18th century. During the period of Nawal Singh, thus it lured many merchants to set up their shop at Mandawa as well, and also they contributed to the setup of this town with great architecture.

Mandawa Fort is one of the major attractions of the town, now it has been converted into a heritage hotel. The fort was built in the 18th century by Thakur Nawal Singh. Is decorated with stunning paintings of lord Krishna and his cows with beautiful mirrorwork.

Binsidhar Newatia Haveli is well-known for its beautiful paintings which hold historical importance. It was built in 1921. The highlights of this painting are such as a man on a bicycle, a boy using a telephone, a bird-man flying in a winged device, a strong man hauling along a car, and a European woman in a car driven by a chauffeur. Murmuria Haveli is another attraction of the town which is located at the heart of the town. Renowned for its stunning paintings which mainly represent the political legends of the ancient era such as Lord Krishna with his cows. The architecture of the Haveli represents the rich culture and art of the Rajasthan.

Gulab Rai Ladia Haveli is situated in the south of Mandawa, which is popular for magnificent art and architecture decorated with exotic paintings. Jhunjhunwala Haveli is another must-see attraction of the town. The main attraction of this Haveli is its distinct gold leaf-painted room situated on the right side of the main courtyard. It is one of the significant examples of the architecture of Rajasthan.

 Don’t miss to visit Goenka Chattri, which is another popular attraction of Mandawa. It was built in the 18th century and named after Goenkas, who lived in this mansion. The walls of the Goenka Chattri are decorated with beautiful paintings mainly the paintings of Lord Krishna. It looks like an open-air art gallery. Thakurji Temple is one of the most important temples of this beautiful town, which is devoted to Lord Krishna. The temple is popular for its amazing paintings of Lord Krishna, which reflect the consequence of spirituality and the art of Rajasthan.
